In Ohio's early settlement days, Sandusky County became
a stronghold of Lutheranism. Traveling missionaries were
among the first to minister to the spiritual needs of early
Lutheran pioneers of this Black Swamp area from 1827 to
1835. In 1836, the former Salem Congregation was formed as
the first Lutheran Church in Sandusky County. The former
St. Paul Church of Lindsey was organized in 1845.
The former Salem and St. Paul congregations merged into
a single congregation to be called Faith Lutheran Church on
January 7, 1964. The dedication of the Faith Evangelical
Lutheran Church building was on May 19, 1968.
